AVSI Foundation (SKY Project)- Lead Partner of Uganda Agribusiness Alliance (UAA) on Youth & Agribusiness Development - January, 2019 -July, 2020
Skilling Youth for Employment in Agribusiness (SKY) is a five-year agricultural development project (2015- 2020), funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Uganda and designed to create job opportunities for youth through hands-on skilling and private sector partnerships.
SKY project four main objectives:
1) To strengthen the capacity of Agri-skills providers to deliver marketable and employable skilling.
2) To provide pre and post-employment support to the skilled youth.
3) To build the capacity of agribusinesses through skilling and brokerage.
4) To facilitate Skilling Uganda Authority to be supportive to Agri-skilling.
SKY Project Targets
During its five years of implementation, SKY targets to skill 8,000 youth, and to employ at least 4,000 (of the total target skilled), build the capacity of 14 partner Agri-institutions, 6 secondary schools (for mindset change in students towards agriculture), and 65 agribusinesses. SKY also supports 380 youth Agriprenuers to develop their businesses so that they can be an inspiration to other youth.
SKY project achievements
Built the capacity of 23 agricultural institutions, including 8 secondary schools, 15 Agri-institutions and 34 agribusinesses across the Northern, Eastern, Western and Central regions of Uganda.
About AVSI Foundation
AVSI began operations in Northern Uganda in 1984, focusing on Education, Economic Empowerment and Livelihoods, Health, Disability, HIV and AIDS, Nutrition, Child Protection, Energy, Sanitation and Hygiene, emergencies.
AVSI remained a direct supporter of communities and partner organizations throughout the two-decade civil conflict in the northern regions of the country, demonstrating commitment and capacity to adapt to volatile circumstances.
Today, through public and private partnerships, AVSI engages with private sector players, government and communities to build capacity of children, youths and households across Uganda through a comprehensive family-centered approach that builds resilience and contributes to sustainable development, responding to the real needs of people.
